For our Instagram Amore the Obscure contest, Jenna White won the challenge for fennel; Alma Adams (a teacher at Patterson Elementary) won for jicama; Anna Eastman won for kohlrabi. Both Jenna and Anna won a copy of Healthy Indian Vegetarian Cooking by Shubhra Ramineni. Also for sharing the love via Instagram during Spring Break, Jacinda Wolofoson won a one-year membership to the Children’s Museum of Houston for a posting photo of her son vegging out during Spring Break. Way to go!

Head of the Class: A total of 17 schools rocked the VegOut! this year.
Major applause goes to Annunciation Orthodox School, which turned in no less than 100 completed veggie tracker logs to win the Principal’s Challenge this year. This marks the second year that AOS has participated in VegOut! And their second year with the most participants campus wide. Kimberly Albright, an Annunciation parent and volunteer, reports that the school put veggie logs in every child’s homework folders before the start of VegOut!, and introduced the veggie of the day each morning on their “Dolphin Daily News.”
Another school we have to give a big shout out to is Cedar Brook Elementary. During the very first week of the March VegOut! Challenge, Cedar Brook led the pack of schools participating with nearly 50 registered participants. And each week, parent volunteers hosted a veggie-tasting stand every Monday and Friday during the month of March, while faculty and staff wore “jeans and greens” each Friday to remind everyone to VegOut! Great job Cedar Brook!
An additional 14 Houston-area schools that participated including Briscoe, First Steps, Heritage Rose, Hunter’s Creek, Kinkaid, Lyons, MacGregor, Nottingham, Patterson, Pine Shadows, Ridgemont, and Red Bluff Elementary/Pasadena, Rodriguez, Spring Branch Middle School, and St. John’s School. And Bluebonnet Elementary in Lockhart, Texas also joined the VegOut! Challenge this year – welcome, y’all! We are so proud to have received completed veggie logs from the vast majority of these participating school.
