Sweet Potatoes

Yams and sweet potatoes are only distantly related to the potato. The sweet potato is actually in the same genus as morning glories, while yams are native to Africa and Asia and are more closely related to lilies and grasses. Culinarily, yams are starchier and drier than sweet potatoes.
